Whats Better Clearisil Or Proactiv?Advice?Personal Experineces And Examples Please.?

I used proactive and I wasn't faithful to it. Once you order it, they keep sending it to you. I had to cancel because I had like a hundred bottles at home. Once I used it faithfully, it was alright, but I totally suggest Clinique Acne Solutions.Whats Better Clearisil Or Proactiv?Advice?Personal Experineces And Examples Please.?
Okay well i used Clearisil before and it works withn 1-3 days 3 days the most and it works amazing. Proavtice my aunt used and it made her break out. Proactive only makes your acne worse and makes you all red. I reccomend Clearisil because on my point of view i think it works fast and really well. I have sensative skin so Clearsil is good if you do too. I hope this helps and good luck! Make a plan on Clearsial .com!Whats Better Clearisil Or Proactiv?Advice?Personal Experineces And Examples Please.?
proavtive worked great for me when i used it, didnt have anymore breakouts....when i canceled.... i got breakouts

stopped buying it because it was to expensive...tried clearasil..... HORRIBLE broke my skin out within 3 days and i only used a cleanser from it . proactive is better but..use a product from them that contains spf.. after the the cleanser in the 3 step if thats what your geting
proactiv really is great but it stopped working for me after a month. you really just have to experiment. i use neutragena because that's what works for me.
Proactive I use it and it works quickly, I can see a pimple stasrtig to form in the evening, then I use proactive and in the morning its barely visible. It makes your skin really soft too.
I use proactive.

Works great for me.

Any personal training advice available?

Am looking for direction on what setting to use on a treadmill to loose weight! I am 5'5'' and 160, middle age, have been doing daily treadmill walks for 2-2.5 miles at 3.5mph and grade 2 incline but all it seems to do is make me hungrier!!

Thanks.Any personal training advice available?
My doctors put me on a walking regimen and advised me to walk a minimum of five miles a day! When I take little sips of water during the walks it cuts down on the hunger pangs. Walking on a treadmill just hasn't done if for me. Uneven terrain makes the leg and foot muscles work harder, thus burning more calories.

I suggest you up the mileage and speed just a bit, considering that most people walk 2 to 4 miles an hour anyway. I read somewhere in a walking magazine that a good walker walks a mile every 20 minutes. You must be at a plateau, so up the distance and speed just a bit for a breakthrough.

I wish I was down to 160!

  • Okay personal advice about???(down there)?

    I always shave down there not all off but it makes me feel dirty if I dont however when I do when it starts growing back it itches. What can I do to make it not itch as bad.Okay personal advice about???(down there)?
    The reason why you are itching is because bacteria is starting to form in your hair follicle and irriating the skin surrounding it. This is because you shaved off the barrier (your hair) that usually wicks the sweat away from these areas. The only way to stop this itching is to powder the area with cornstarch or another fragrance free non-irritating powder or you can use products made by Monistat.Okay personal advice about???(down there)?
    try hair removal cream or try the battery operated razors that says prevent hair bumps. It works for me.
    use something like NAIR only buy something for gentle areas.
    good question
    Bikini Zone is this lotion/gel u can get anywhere that reduces stubble and razor burn. Also keep moisturized, shaving reduces the natural oils the hair holds in. Wear cotton undies, light and not skin tight ones.
    non frag. baby powder.. its the mositure that may cause bumps and itching..so try that or an anti-itching powder..Hope I helped
    shave it all off or grow it back...I had the same problem...or you can keep it really really short...when in between, the short, coarse hairs come into contact with your skin and irritate it.
    i have tried baby diaper rash cream... and it works!
    Might sound odd, but try using olive oil as the lubricant. Always worked for my former significant other who was very prone to razor bumps and irritation.
    Sorbolene cream! I use it all the time and it is very helpful. put it on whenever you think of it, and it should help.

    Use PH-balanced soap (some sort of cleansing lotion) when cleaning that area as well.
    1. trim dont shave clean

    2, or go for brazilian wax, after a few session the hair grown back(if any) will be soft
    Victoria's Secret has an awesome aftershave lotion specifically to sooth the skin...u might want to try that
    try a bikini wax
    I put cream on and it really helps
    it will feel ichy, but don't itch it, (Iknow it is really hard,) but don't and the ichness will stop until u shave again. although, you shouldn't shave ';it'; because every time you do, it grows back thicker and darker, and ichier every time. let it grow, and get use to it. you'll be happier and less embarrassed.
    Put some Lotion on it and it shouldnt feel so itchy I get the same way that always seems to help...hope this helps
    Actually, everytime you shave there, it is going to itch! Being such a ';delicate'; area, I think I would ask my doctor. There are a number of things on the market for ';vaginal itching'; and I think this would be the safest in that area. I am no doctor though and so, I say call your doctor to be safe!! Good luck!

    Young singer looking for personal advice & guidance from good vocal teacher. Any help, please?

    I'm looking for any qualified vocal teacher to guide and advice me through my vocal training via e-mail. However, i don't live in USA, i live in Indonesia and i don't have money to hire a personal vocal teacher right now. I'm 20 years old and I just start singing several months ago, and right now I keep training my vocal trough college choir (but not regularly) and book/CD of ';Jeffrey's Allen Secret of Singing';. Still, that's not enough.

    These are my major vocal problem to overcome:

    1) Poor articulation

    2) Shallow breath

    3) Little power

    4) My range, especially ';crack'; in the upper and lower notes

    Once again, i DESPERATELY need advice and guidance from any good vocal techer out there. It would be better if you can contact me via e-mail regularly (daily would be much better). Just give me your e-mail and we can start coresponding each other. Thank you... from the bottom of my heart.Young singer looking for personal advice %26amp; guidance from good vocal teacher. Any help, please?
    number one, take care of your throat as much as possible. don't drink things too hot or too cold, as both can be damaging (though too cold is a temporary problem, too hot can burn the throat)

    1) you really have to inunciate really well when singing. there are some sounds that you may have to change for the sake of sounding good. for instance, long ';e'; sounds that are held for any longer than a moment should be sung as short ';e'; sounds instead, so that one does not sound like mini-me. try opening your mouth wider, and pushing from your diaphragm more.

    2) adjust your breathing. instead of breathing with your chest, use your belly to breath. it may seem less flattering, your belly rising and falling, but that's where your diaphragm is more closely located, and thus what will rise and fall with breathing. wind speed is key. the faster you move the air across your vocal chords, the cleaner the sound will be. above all, practice.

    3) same as 2

    4) some problems may be eradicated from #2, but your voice just may not be reaady for these ranges. start by finding your current range, and then try to extend it little by little. do not continue if it hurts. you can damage your throat this way, thus lessening your range. if something starts to hurt, STOP.

    drink hot (not too hot) tea with honey and citrus products regularly, but for before and during a performance:

    stay away from anything acidic in large doses (orange juice, tomatos, etc)

    no milk (it coats the throat and makes singing harder)

    no cold drinks (it will constrict your vocal chords)

    eat oily foods (bananas, potato chips [the greasy kind],etc)(they lube up your throat making things easier when singing.)

    you still may learn a lot of things from that book, the may have some good stuff in there on breathing, and maybe a more extended list of food/drink dos and donts. read through the whole thing, and if you have any more questions, contact me via the link on my page. happy singing!

    Personal advice on acne.?

    anyone who has had acne can you tell me a cure .. i have been on antibiotics for 6 months.. it has improved big time but i want some personal advice who have expericend acne.Personal advice on acne.?
    Use proactiv.

    It works =]Personal advice on acne.?
    i will suggest you to use a brand new product in USA: oslee sleeping masks, this is a good product that is new in USA, it calls sleeping masks, it has 5 different species: Whitening sleeping mask, Oil Controlling Sleeping Mask, Dark Circle Reducing Sleeping Mask, Pore-Refining Sleeping Mask and Clear Spa Sleeping Mask Advanced Formula. This sleeping mask is like a gel, you can put some of the sleeping masks on your face before you sleep and then wash it the next day. i used it and it really improve my skin problems like: acne and black head. The sleeping masks are a very fabulous product that can save a lot of time for women because you just use your sleeping time to take care your skin that why i share with all of you but the only way i can buy them are on ebay and also the are under $10 so they are very cheap, hopefully you will try them and solve your skin problems

    here is the link for the cheaper sleeping masks but she only have two species of the sleeping masks:

    6months antibiotics is not good and of course bad in your kidney, and liver.

    for me i just do the natural way,..

    sleep well like 8 hours every day, eat right. and proper hygiene. ( facial ).

    hope it will help.
    Urine. I know it's horrifyingly gross but it actually does work for a lot of people. Use your own urine, put it mainly on the problem areas, let dry and then wash it off with a mild soap. Truly, I have never found anything that works so well and I go for at least a year closer to two without havening to repeat.
    I am the same as you and I am so depressed for the past 5 years!!! it destroy my confident and self esteem and don't dare to go out with my friends. I tired many skin care solutions and products but none of them are effective :%26lt;%26lt;

    Till last month, I found this site and they recommend a book which I have get rid my acne within 3 days with the instruction given!! I don't believe it as the first place and tot it is a SCAM!! But come to think about it, what else can be worst!!

    So I give it a try and the miracle happen!! with the nature method provided in the book, I get rid of my acne which ';accompany'; me for 5 years!!

    You can get the review here and I hope it ready help you and turn you life to positive after a week, just like me.

    Pro active works wonders, it is a bit pricy though. You can find it on qvc for much cheaper and you don't have to join the club to buy it. It really does work well though. You may also want to eat healthier, that may help some too.

    Personal advice and experiance please?

    Have you ever been with a guy were you love him when your not with him...and dont think you love him when you Are with him?

    ...and because of that reason couldnt let go?

    What did you do, or what WOULD you do if you were in this situation?Personal advice and experiance please?
    I believe that this could be quite a common problem. His name was brett. Brett was amazing, kind, funny, cute, protective, great right. Thinking about him was great, however when It was just on our own small things would annoy me about him that other people wouldent understand??? Like his breathing for example, I mean, really his breathing, how pathetic HOWEVER to cut a long story short, yes we are still together because I got over this, because when it comes down to it I love him for him and every part of him, even his stupid breathing :D xxx 3 years strong

    I'm thinking of Officer's academy or enlisting, any personal accounts or advice?

    So, I'm a Junior in High school and got good grades, high test scores blah blah. Duke, Columbia, NYU, Blah blah. NSLC, Blah Blah. The current global atmosphere is sort of making me want to enlist in the army, go to Army or Navy Universities, and get and Officer Job. Can anyone give me a personal account of their time enlisting out of highschool? or Officer Academy, Specifically. Army sites are so biased.I'm thinking of Officer's academy or enlisting, any personal accounts or advice?
    Couple ot things you can do, talk with your school counselor about getting an appointment to one of the service accademies. They select top students out of high school to attend. If not go to college and attend reserve officer training course for one of the services, They will pay tuition and books, upon completion you wlll be made an officer.I'm thinking of Officer's academy or enlisting, any personal accounts or advice?
    Go to college first, but if you cannot afford to then just join, but make sure you get a job that gives you the most benefit such as being a Ranger or right in to the Infantry! lol

    You don't sound like to have the grades that you indicate! : )

I know I know it sounds really stupid but its true.Im 16 %26amp; getting my tonsils taken out. Please tell me any personal experiences or advice.?
    I had my tonsils taking out when i was 7 yrs old and it really hurt but i mean i was 7. Plus when u get your iv they put u under quick. then when u wake up u will probably be in and out of it. my throat really hurt and icouldn'tt eat ice cream or anything for like 3 days. but it wont hurt after thatIm 16 %26amp; getting my tonsils taken out. Please tell me any personal experiences or advice.?
    I got mine taken out before fourth grade. They put you to sleep and then when you wake up your kind of dazed. Really it hurt me a lot I had a hard time eating mashed potatoes. It hurt for about two weeks. Eat Popsicles they help a lot. It was worth it cause I haven't he strep throat since and I hardly get sick except for now I have swine. But it won't be the worst pain you've ever experienced but it did hurt a bit. Don't worry you'll do fine
    dont worry! i had mine taken out around your age as well... its not that bad and the pain slowly goes away more day and day....

    you will not be able to eat regular foods, but i had mashed potatoes, eggs, yogurt, ice cream, stuff like that..

    dont worry.. just rest alot and dont strain your throat by talking alot..

    good luck! :]]

    and dont worry... you WILL wake up..
    you'll be OK. its a really common surgery. little bitty ones get their tonsils taken out too and they've done well....YOU'LL be ok!
    Well they do put you to sleep I think and you get to eat ice cream thats all i know.

    Personal advice really urgent?

    I am working in a company and my boss force meto develop physical relation with him and unfortunately i got impressed by his words and I made but now he is reacting very badly with me now pls advice now I spoilt me life.Personal advice really urgent?
    get a new job. I know that sounds harsh but your boss had no right to pressure you in that way and this is not a good environment for you to remain in. Clearly your boss is a pig and I don't care how much you love your job otherwise there is no way you can be happy working under someone like that now is there. Don't quit right away though, make sure you have another job lined up that you can go to so you are still able to pay your bills but this is not a company you want to stay working for with a boss like this. and make sure other co-workers know what a slime ball he is so they don't have to go through what you did.Personal advice really urgent?
    Tell him you quit.
    since you developed a relationship, and he didn't force himself on you, I think you should quit. You got yourself in, get yourself out.
    carry a little recording device and get him talking to you about this relationship and then take that to his boss. YOU WIN!!!
    You need to get a new job and keep your personal life out of the office.
    **** him get another job i would not be suprise if he would like you hisself

    good luck
    Starting a small business takes a lot of courage. But, as they say, courage does not pay the bills. To be successful – to stay in business – you need more than courage. You need a combination of hard work, skill, perseverance, and lots of luck.

    Some things you need to consider:

    - ';How can I support my family while I build up by business?';

    - ';What are my abilities?';

    - ';Is there a market for the product or service I have chosen?';

    - ';How long will it take this business to reach the financial goal I have?';

    Also ask yourself the following questions:

    - Think of why a customer would want to hire you instead of them going to the gym? Convenience may be the best reason, but what about equipment?

    - What will the client get from signing up with your classes? What is the VALUE or that extra something that they can get from you and not from a typical gym?

    - Will you be the trainer who trains everybody (housewives, CEO, etc.) or will you specialize in one niche?

    - What will your training focus be? Will you be training Pilates, or doing kickboxing?

    - What will your hours be? Are you willing to train someone at 6 am, or another at 10 pm? Or will you stick to a conventional 9-5 schedule?

    - What is your experience? How well known are you in the field of fitness in your area? It is easier to get clients if gym-loving customers already know you as one of the best gym instructors in town

    If your market is big, you define your business carefully, pick your USP Unique Selling Proposition, and take good care of clients, I think you stand a great chance at succeeding.

    Get mad. Think about all the things she did that pissed you off. There has to be a few because no relationship is that good.

    If that doesn't help, make an appointment with your doctor and SOON.
    While I can imagine how heartbreaking this is for you....it's time to find a way to refocus your Hearts attention to the beautiful child you have together....and perhaps in this life that was your sole purpose together. And now it's time to let go of her as your mate....and Be willing to Open your heart with all that Love you have sitting idle for her...and finding the Woman you were Meant to be with Long term. You will just have to continually tell yourself, the Time has passed for us, but I have SO much to Give %26amp; look forward too....it's really one of the best ways to get through. Pick your head up and be an example to your child that when One Door Closes another Door Opens.....

    Best of Luck.
    Sounds like you need some kind of closure in dealing with your previous relationship. There is a reason why you two are no longer together, for whatever reason that may be. It is perfectly normal to think about that kind of stuff. Also, try to think about all of the stuff she used to do to make you angry. That may give you the distance you need to get over her.

    Refocus your energy on your children because they need you the most. If you think you are confused as an adult, try to think what your children are going through. Why aren't mommy and daddy still together? Set a good example for your children and never let them see you two fight. Since you have children together you will always have some form of interaction with the mother.
    try to focus on other thing that you like
    That is something that time has to heal. It is horrible to be hurting so much inside. I know I have been there.The best advice I can give you is to ..GO TO WORK..WORK,WORK,WORK.I know you don't want to and have to drag yourself outta bed.But the longer you are by yourself the more depressed you'll get.Just throw yourself in your work.I know you don't believe me now but It will get better.Spend time with your kids.Go to a club.Try and make yourself do things and pretty soon it won't hurt so much.but the longer you hole up the longer it will hurt. Get up and do something TODAY!!
    I know its horrible to feel like this but keep telling yourself that there is DEFINITELY more than one right person out there for all of us.

    Its not easy if your relationship has broken down as you will have to keep contact, but PLEASE believe me, these feelings will diminish slowly in time if you just do things for yourself that you enjoy .. however trivial, and KNOW that someone else will come along, it's almost like discovering a new icecream that you like more than the last one!

    At the moment you still feel attached because she is what you are used to and it is still fresh in your heart.

    Things will change for you though.

    I have been also in a similar situation, more than once, and it is amazing to look back and remember how bad you once felt and how then again things change most amazingly and life starts up again.

    Good luck.
    here are some jokes to cheer you up

    Little Johnny returns from school and says he got an F in arithmetic.

    ';Why?'; asks the father.

    ';The teacher asked 'How much is 2x3' and I said '6' '; replies Johnny.

    ';But that's right!';

    ';Yeah, but then she asked me 'How much is 3x2?' ';

    ';What's the ******* difference?'; asks the father.

    ';That's what I said!';

    The new English teacher had just taken over

    her first class, a group of scruffy,

    leering boys.

    ';Give me a word beginning with 'A,''; she said.

    ';*** holes!'; said Cameron proudly.

    Ignoring his remark, she continued.

    Now give me a word beginning with 'B'

    ';Bastard,'; came the answer from Freddy.

    She immediately gave C a miss and moved on to D.

    ';Dwarf,'; said Little Johnny.

    With a sigh of relief she asked him what a

    dwarf was.

    ';A little ****** about 60 centimeters tall,';

    said Little Johnny.

    Little Johnny was in his 4th grade class when the teacher asked the children that their fathers did for a living. All the

    typical answers came up- fireman, policeman, salesman, etc...

    Johnny was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. ';My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money.';

    The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring, and took Little Johnny aside to ask him, ';Is that really true about your father?';

    ';No,'; said Johnny, ';He plays for the New Orleans Saints, but I was too embarrassed to say so.
    This is difficult as i dont know the full story of why you cannot let her go....so all i can suggest is take some time away from when you are now... get out of town so to speak, but let your friends know where you are so that you are safe... especilly you are feeling depressed.

    Then seek help from your doctor, to help ease the depression, they will offer you councilling sessions, advice sessions aswel as medication so you can choose what is suitable for you, maybe go with a friend so they can support you with this too.

    It will take time but things will get easier with help. Take care....
    Edward, focus on your children. Love and care for them and put your energy into them. Women will come in and out of your life, but you'll always have your children. If their mom doesn't want you, you have to let her go. It's emotionally (and sometimes physically) unhealthy for you to obsess this way. When you're stressed, so are your children. Just remember that. I'm not dismissing your pain. I know that it's real. I've been there. There is just no point in hanging on when someone else's love is gone. Time will help to heal your broken heart. I know it sounds corny, but it's true. Experience has and will always be life's best teacher. So give it some time and work on your mind. Give yourself self-affirmations. Remind yourself that you are a good person who takes care of his responsibilities and his children. Know that you deserve to be loved by someone who respects and cares for you. Now, you might not meet her tomorrow, but if you keep things on a positive note, someone will come into your life. I know that right now there is no one for you except for your children's mother. If it's meant to be, then it WILL BE at some point. But if not, life is not over and there will be someone else. In either case, good luck to you and your family. Have patience and God bless you.

    You are in a difficult spot my friend, and you need to fall back on your resources: inner, outer, social, family whatever they may be. Consider and develop your natural resilience.

    Maintain your core: your job, nutrition, rest %26amp; sleep as much as possible. Distract yourself from your pain. Exercise and stretch a lot. Look for sources of pleasure in your life and make the most of them. Cultivate some contacts, but don't overwhelm them with your emotions. If there is someone you can share with, great!

    You say 'she talks to other people', implying that you don't. Maybe you don't feel ready yet. Don't push yourself too hard, but if you can, try to make a small effort.

    Best wishes; survive %26amp; prosper!
    Try to meet new people and spend more time with your friends. Try to talk to them(your friends) about what is bothering you and about how you feel. Being your friends, they know you better than anyone else and they will surely understand you and try to help you get over it.

    Try to find someone, don't stay and meditate all day long about her (from what you said i think she doesn't feel too bad about it). Life goes ahead and all you have to do is to follow it.

    i read your other questions that you put on yahoo answers and i really think you should talk to someone about it. You are too obsessed about this woman and she probably doesn't even care about it. Stop being such a loser and get over it. There are a lot of women out there that are waiting for such a sensitive guy like you and what are you doing? : you are complaining and again complaining about her. If she didn't keep you she is stupid but you are more stupid then her to still thinking about it !!!

    After graduating from High school, I decided to go back to the Philippines to pursue a career in BS Nursing. I enrolled at Central Luzon Doctor's Hospital Educational Institution. My first year in that college was great and I admired their standards of teaching and the facilities that they give. I even thought that this is the place for me but there was a problem, the school wasn't accredited to accept international students. So I transferred to Pangasinan College of Science and Technology. From the start I felt uneased and I wasn't quite sure if I would still continue my career here at their college because I wasn't used to their standard of teaching. In our life, we look up to many people not only because they are famous but because of the many good deeds they have done and when I think about these deeds, the first thing that comes in my mind are the Nurses. I admire them because they know how to commisserate with patients.Nursing is a course that is related to science and my favorite aspect of this course are Human Biology, Chemistry for Health Studies and Physics for Health Studies because through these courses, I understand more the various parts that make up our body and the proper way of taking care of it.Can you please check the introduction of my personal statement and give some advice,ty?
    ';Uneased'; isn't exactly a word. You might as well go with ';uneasy';.

    And the section starting with ';In our life...'; doesn't flow from the preceding section. You should start a new paragraph if you want to go on talking about that. It would also be more proper to say ';In a person's life, he or she...';, as the impersonal second person voice usually doesn't have a place in formal writing.

    Otherwise, looks good.Can you please check the introduction of my personal statement and give some advice,ty?

It hurt for about two weeks. Eat Popsicles they help a lot. It was worth it cause I haven't he strep throat since and I hardly get sick except for now I have swine. But it won't be the worst pain you've ever experienced but it did hurt a bit. Don't worry you'll do fine

    ';But that's right!';

    ';Yeah, but then she asked me 'How much is 3x2?' ';

    ';What's the ******* difference?'; asks the father.

    ';That's what I said!';

    With a sigh of relief she asked him what a

    dwarf was.

    ';A little ****** about 60 centimeters tall,';

    said Little Johnny.

    Little Johnny was in his 4th grade class when the teacher asked the children that their fathers did for a living. All the

    typical answers came up- fireman, policeman, salesman, etc...

    Johnny was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. ';My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money.';

    The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring, and took Little Johnny aside to ask him, ';Is that really true about your father?';

    I am perparing to purpose my personal statement for grad program anthropology program need advice!?

    Help! I meet with a advisor to discuss admissions into the University of Chicago's PHD anthroplogy program. She said my personal statment on my applaction should be a purposal almost of something I'd like to research or a dilemmia that dervers more research and study consindering I have a background in journalism (B.S.) how do i go about this decding?I am perparing to purpose my personal statement for grad program anthropology program need advice!?
    Your adviser is right. In your personal statement, I've been told that it's best to focus on what your research goals/interests are going to be in the future and how that fits into the larger anthropological picture.

    I have really awful, cynical advice so I'm sure so happy first year grad students in anthropology will come along and say NO NO, but if I could go back and apply again, I would be more practical in choosing what I claimed my research focus in. Look at what the faculty at Chicago are doing and try to make your interests fit into that in some way. Also, it's not a bad idea to browse the kind of anthropology proposals that are getting funded through the SSRC or Wenner Gren. See what looks like it's getting attention and see how your project can relate to that.

    Make your project/interests sound as anthropologically hot and trendy as possible.

    Oh, also, it's important to have a clearly stated geographical area as well as theoretical areas. I know that it's kind of lame and old school but at least on applications people care. (Of course, if you're project is transnational in some way, that's different.) In terms of geographical areas, it's a good idea to stay away from studying the U.S. (again, I realize this sounds like such 1950s advice but programs are often less excited about US based project. If you really want to work on the US, drop that on them after you've been admitted.)

    It's also a good idea to target certain faculty in your essay and suggest that you would like to work with them/they influence you/etc. Browse their work and get a feel for what kind of questions they're interested in and then try to make yourself seem compatible and interesting to them.

    Don't misrepresent yourself, just make yourself seem as snappy as you can. that's my advice.

    Also, don't put all of your eggs in Chicago's basket. I've heard that once you get in there, it's hyper competitive and getting faculty attention can be tricky. I don't go there though so I can only base that on rumors and such. There are lots of other really great programs out there. (Chicago is a great prgram though...)

    Anyway, good luck.I am perparing to purpose my personal statement for grad program anthropology program need advice!?
    I don't mean to seem rude, but if you want to get a PhD in

    Anthropology, why don't you already have an idea about your research interests?

    In other words - why are you going to graduate school? Answer that question and then work from there to determine

    what your statement of purpose should cover. You don't necessarily have to be specific, your research interests may change as your studies continue, but you should have a general idea of what it is you want to do and why you want to do it at the U of C.

    The advice from earlier posters regarding researching the Anthropology department at U of C and figuring out just what it is various professors in the department do is excellent. You should also contact the department to see if you can get in touch with professors who share your interests. It would also be a good idea to see if you can get in touch with current graduate students in the department. Current students are often far better resources for information about what the department is like, what is expected of students, etc.

    If possible, you may also want to try to visit the department in person.

    My statement of purpose for my application to graduate school (and I'm currently an advanced graduate student at the University of Chicago, though not in Anthropology) covered both my research interests and my prior experience in the field.

    I'd also advise you to very carefully proofread all your application materials and/or get a friend to do the same. I realize that this is a casual forum and that many people do not proofread posts they make on the internet, or do and don't catch everything, but your question contains a number of spelling and grammar mistakes. Similar mistakes in your application materials may be enough to immediately disqualify you.
    U of Chicago... I'm a 70 yr old engineer %26amp; would like to get in their biology grad program just to work with Bruce Lahn. Why not research the reasons for the heavy positive selection of the ASPM %26amp; MCPH1 genes recently discovered by Bruce Lahn's team. I think an anthropoligist's view of these genes %26amp; reasons behind their recent positive selection among homo sapiens would be of help to all science fields.

    Chuckle, I was selected for grad school in the EE field because I spoke English %26amp; they needed some teaching assistants. However, find out what the school %26amp; the Department head needs, then do your best to meet that need.
    Subtly work in your masterful cocksmanship.
    Well, for my graduate program the statement of purpose that they wanted was not exactly what I was going to study and do my thesis on, but a general statement about what sub-field of anthropology I was going into. I'm studying forensic anthropology and so in my statement I merely said that intended to study that subject. You might say you're going to study MesoAmerican archaeology or iconography, sort a general statement but specific enough that they know what you'd like to do.

    I think the best thing for you to do is find out if the school has an advisor who is also part of the faculty, or if they don't simply a faculty member you'll most likely be working with, and ask them what sort of statement they expect. If they're anything like my faculty advisors, they'll be happy to help and it also shows them your interest in their program, which they love. Every program is going to expect something different, so try and find out more about what they want and then write it.

    Does any1 have an personal advice?

    Ok im a freshman in high school and im pacled in 2 honors ocurses. But i dont want to be in one of them and thats science. Im already in Geometry as a freshamn not to mention in geometry honors soim high on my math skills, but the reason i dont wanna be in honors science is that no one of my friends are in it and that noe class jacks up my whole schedule for my other regualr classes. I want to get in a great college but i cant i do that with jsut getting an a in regualr science and have a good time in high schoo lwith my friends?Does any1 have an personal advice?
    Friends are wonderful, but you shouldn't decide your college career just cause your friends are in a different class. Your friends should still be your friends even though you guys are in different classes. You got afterschool right?

    So stick with your honors, and your friends should respect you for your decision. Hope all goes well.Does any1 have an personal advice?
    Sometimes you just have to do what's best for the bigger picture. My only suggestion is that you take your English studies seriously. If your spelling and grammar don't improve by the time you have to write your college essays, you will be in big, big trouble.
    I think from reading your question, you should enroll in an English grammar class instead.
    umm I think your question is can I get into a good college without taking honors science?

    It depends on what you mean by great college. There are many great colleges that aren't ivy league and that you can get into without taking an honors science or whatever. Honors science will help you, and if you take it, you will make friends and you will still have time to hang out with friends. Trust me.

    As for college, you'll never get into ANY college if you don't start paying attention in English class. Jesus Christ.
    Having a chance for honors in science and math will give your more options for you future college or university.

    Having just math honors is kind of plain, so you will have to have super grades (A's) in all your other classes for colleges to be interested in you.

    Have you ever thought...that maybe...in that science honor class, you may meet someone new...make a new friend!?

    Ask yourself: do I want to go to college and to a University?

    (if yes)

    What do I want to be, what do I want to study/ major in?

    (then)

    Make the correct choices, regardless of what your friends do, what classes they take, etc...

    You are in charge of your future...not your friends!
    I am going to tell you something and hope that you will truly think about your options before you make any major decision.

    My son graduated with 2 college courses in calculus when he was 16. He is an expert in math, and he was in honor courses, did not like them because ';school was supposed to be fun';. His friends were not as smart as he was and he wanted to be around them. After he graduated he was offered a full scholar ship by Wake Forest--and declined, telling me he wasn't ready for college. So he decided to do what all his friends did--he joined the military and ended up in Iraq. He came back with a messed up back, tood a medical discharge, and now he is on his own, for the military does not take care of their own(unless you come back an invalid you got to fight for any assistance). So here is my son, a war veteran at age 22, a job at Time Warner, and struggling to go back to college to achieve his dream of journalism(he just enrolled, and the courses are hard-it would be better if he would not work). So when you look at this and then look at yourself--is it worth it to give up a great opportunity just because school is supposed to be fun and because your friends are not in the same courses? Of course, you probably say that you won't be so stupid and join the military, but then, suppose you do for your friends and not for yourself, where are you going to be when you finish high school?

    As far as the school schedule is concerned, I happen to know that you can re-arrange courses within the first 10 days or so, where you could actually line up your courses in a manner where none of the courses will interfer with the rest of your day. My son had to do that quite a few times. The question for you to answer is this: do you want to drop honors science because you want to be with your friends, or do you want to drop it because you don't like it. And regardless of what you do, remember this: even though you are still in school, any decision you make will affect the rest of your life---so consider your options carefully before you drop your honors science. You know, it is easy to be good in a subject we love, it is a challenge to be good in a subject we hate, but that's where our efforts count. Because to be good at something we don't like requires us to do a little more thinking, a little more work--and that is what is expected from the leaders. Good Luck
    If you're taking honor classes in high school America is doomed.
    You can still get into a good school without taking honors classes, they just help your odds. Of course, there should be times outside of class (like lunch) that you can still be with your friends. Not to mention the fact that you might make new friends in the more advanced classes that think on the same level you do.
    Maybe you'll meet some new friends in your science class. Friends come and go but your education is for life! ;)

    The secret to not being shy is to be yourself, not be so sensitive about what other people think of you, and just practice making smalltalk to people other than your close friends.

    Oh, and invest in this new software company called ';Microsoft.'; :-)
    I'd say, ';Listen little jive turkey, follow your bliss. Don't do things because you think they are what you ';should'; do. Do things because they are what you love.'; I'd tell myself to be more protective of myself, to love smarter, to be more in charge of my destiny. I'd tell myself not to buy into what other people thought of me. I'd never have met one person in particular who took me places that I never wanted to go. Protect yourself.
    the world is just a stage... each of us has a role to play. learn how to act, to deliver your lines effectively. to show your emotions at the right moment.... and to accept the audience and critics verdict alike... after the play is done, then you'd know if you've done well in playing your part...
    Do the best you can in high school because what you do in high school will affect your whole life even though i probably would not ahve listened
    well considering that i'm still young, i think when i age that i will probably tell myself to go for the gold, you know try a little harder and forget that you may not succeed, b/c that is no reason not to try at all.

    But since i'm young and stupid I'll probably not take that advice
    If I had a chance to offer my younger self advice, I'd pass on the opportunity, because I know myself well enough that I know I wouldn't have listened.

    Personal defense! Advice on which to go for?

    So im thinking about taking some personal defense class. But i dont want it to be Tae kwon do, or karate because they take too long. Kick boxing isnt appealing and neither is jiujitsu or capoeira. So does anyone know any other class i can take?Personal defense! Advice on which to go for?
    if your interested in self defense, I would suggest looking for an actual ';self defense'; class, as opposed to martial arts

    any martial art is going to take a long time, because you're actually working towards learning an art, not just practical applications

    classes geared towards self defense should focus on the practical side, and include, in addition to a physical component, a sort of psychisocial component, which addresses cultural conditioning, fear responses, and other potential obstacles to using your physical techniques

    as for the physical part, most modern self defense employs a basic set of tools specifically designed so that they are easy to learn, highly effective, and are able to incapacitate someone regardless of size difference

    in addition, there are a number of personal safety strategies that such classes can help out with to minimize the chances that you'll find yourself in a situtation where you need to defend yourself

    traditional martial arts classes tend to spend their time teaching the art itself, more than the practical application of it, so they tend not to be as useful in the short termPersonal defense! Advice on which to go for?
    A firearms class to get your concealed carry permit and self defense training by certified instructor that trains police, fire and paramedics to defend themselves in close quarters . I am going to give reasons why.

    1. Martial Arts are good except when more than one person attacks you at the same time (in the movies the star is always attacked one at a time to make it look like it works) Also, if someone much larger and stronger attacks, you will lose (tv shows like Oprah show little women flipping 6' men, but if you watch, the man is always standing still. If he really fought, they would lose.)

    2. Pepper spray can get you as well in close combat. However, I recommend it with a gun.

    3. Tasers only allow you to tase one at a time and stun guns require you get too close.
    I hate to say this because I do not want to come across as condescending, but any martial art will take time. There is no quick route to self defense except to learn to use your most effective weapon. That would be your brain and with it common sense.

    Anyone that tells you to carry a weapon is fooling themselves. Statistics say that 80% of injuries in a robbery come from an individuals weapon being taken from them and used on themselves.

    Take the time to learn. It will benefit you in so many ways. I strongly suggest Krav Maga. You can begin using it immediately, but it is not for the weak of heart and those that do not want to put forth the effort.

    Good luck in your choice.
    tae kwon do takes to long? what do you mean by they take to long? do you think you only learn anything as a black belt?

    because if you only consider being a black belt being able to defend yourself then all styles of martial arts are going to take to long. tae kwon do is oftent the quickest to get up to blackbelt.

    just find a close martial arts class which you are willing to pay for if you have fun or think it is useful staythere otherwise move on to another class. the style isnt all you learn you learn everythign differently dependign on the instructor.
    Well, it doesn't sound like you want to take anything that requires discipline or commitment. Either you're lazy or you're expecting to have your life threatened within the month. No martial art that is worth taking will make you a master in a few weeks. It takes years of intense training. I suggest you buy a gun and get a concealed carry permit.
    Salutations,

    You might want to look into the Internal arts such as Tai chi, these aid in centering ones self, though any form could take a life time to truly master. I would also suggest talking to you local or state police, as they may have contact information for you for the kind of courses you are talking about, these courses generally are of short term, and are more about being prepared and aware of your surroundings. Also, I would suggest you have Pepper foam cylinder and a Loud whistle on your key chain. You might also look into a device called a Kubaton. Cheers
    The ';I Carry Mace/Pepper Spray!'; class.

    I do taekwondo and i'm not sure what you mean when you say they take a long time. No class is going to get you fit and prepared to do any combat in a few days. Taekwondo well teach you techniques and will sharpen your response time/muscles bit by bit, though the knowledge is useful from day one

    There is no quick self-defense class.
    All martial arts take time to learn self defense. its not a overnight process, if anybody tells you that they can teach you to defend your self in 4 easy class there ripping you off.

    It takes time and practice. and even then there are no guaranties. even the best loose fights.
    Well you could go the local college or YMCA and see if they have self defense classes. also Krav Maga is good for pure self defense. There are a lot of other martial arts out there. I suggest looking in the phone book and going to a few different places before deciding what you do and do not want to take
    i recommend weightlifting. In practice there is no replacement for raw power. It is the reason why there are weight classes in any professional martial bout. It is also the reason why a gorilla will almost always beat a human in a fight.
    You could investigate Krav Maga ,since you don't fancy jiu-jitsu.

    Best wishes :)***
    i would say Krav Maga . stay away from self defense classes. they dont work and usally just gives you a false sense of sercurity

    I Want to eventually get a body similiar to the body of will smith in the movie I-Robot, But I still have some fat on my stomach and I wanna' get rid of that fat, but at the same time build up muscle. I'm confused about how many calories a day I should be getting and what % calories from fat should I be allowed.

    I'm 6'0 and I weigh 185ish. I use a gnc protien supplement. Between the milk and the powder, I drink about 600 calories worth of that protien supplement a day. That totals like 100g's of protein a day from the supplement. I lift for a little more than an hour a day, 13 days outa 2 weeks. I play tennis for cardio or run for like an hour also a day. However only about 5 days a week. So How many calories should I be getting and what % from fat? Any additional advice would be really helpful too. Is there any more information you need. Also I'm a guy.Wannabe model confused about calories and calories from fat. Need personal trainer advice..?
    Hi,

    I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!

    A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at

    http://www.get-slender.info where they have a free trial and you only pay 5.49$ shipping and handling.
