A good trainer will do a fitness analysis to see where you're at. Most will do some kind of bodyfat measuring usually with a handheld device. Between 21-24% body fat is ideal for women. They normally also do measurements and weight.

Hopefully he will help you set a realistic goal based on your frame size and current body fat percentage. From there, he should set you up with a cardio program you like and weight training for each major muscle group.

Most personal trainers also do a nutrition program. Some will have you keep a food diary for a week to see where you're going wrong.

If you don't understand how to use a machine, ask your trainer to show you again. Maybe take a small notepad with you to take additional notes. My biggest problem when I first started was figuring out which machine I was supposed to be at and then remembering how to use it.. lolI just joined the gym today and going to see personal trainer tommorrow advice on what the session should be ?
I think the first post is good. I'd like to add that it is important to communicate to your trainer what your goals are (weight loss, toning up, building mass) so that you both are on the same page.
Congratulations on taking a step towards a healthier lifestyle!!

First off they will probably do a fitness checklist with you to see where you're currently at. Body fat, weight, they may do a strength test-heart rate test etc. Ask you a few questions about your activity/diet etc.

What you should ask is how to properly execute certain key exercises...Lat Pulldown, Bench, lunges, squats, bi-curls, tri-cable pressdown,

Hopefully you'll do one set of each exercise for each body part the main thing is that you properly do the exercises. It's useless to do them wrong where you can injure yourself.

I recommend 2 things if you're looking to lose weight or gain strength. Purchase 2 note books one for your diet plan-another for your exercises. Date each day you're at the gym working out-you'll be amazed at what you can do 3 months from now!
